How to Get Testimonials from Busy Clients (Without Feeling Pushy)
Busy clients aren’t hostile — they’re just busy. Here are 7 outreach patterns that pull testimonials from senior executives, founders and operators.
The reason your VP of Marketing client hasn’t replied isn’t because they hate you. It’s that they have 14 tabs open and your testimonial request is at the bottom of two of them.
Here’s how to be the request that actually gets done.
1. Time‑box everything
“Could you record a 20‑second video sometime this week?” is 3× more effective than “Whenever you have a moment, I’d love a testimonial.”
The brain processes the first as “small, contained, decidable.” The second as “a project.” You don’t get the second one done.
2. Anchor the ask to gratitude
“Thank you for last week — that was a great call. Two sentences from you would mean the world.”
Gratitude opens reciprocity. Cold asks close it.
3. Pre‑write the words
Offer a draft. Most busy people will tweak two phrases and send it back — but they won’t generate from scratch.
“Here’s a draft if it helps: ‘[name] and team helped us cut onboarding time by 40%. Couldn’t recommend more.’ Edit anything that doesn’t feel like you.”
This single move tripled response rates in our agency tests.
4. Send the right link, not the right form
Don’t link a Google Doc. Don’t link a survey. Send a one‑click Credibuilt collect link that opens straight to “Record” or “Type” with the person’s name already filled in.
5. Reverse the polarity of follow‑ups
After 7 days of silence, send:
“Totally fine if you don’t have time — no pressure. If you’d rather I draft something based on our last review call and you just approve it, just reply ‘draft’.”
You’ll get more “drafts” than you expect. And once you draft, they almost always say yes.
6. Make it asynchronous
“Whenever” is the wrong calendar invite. “Anytime in the next 5 days” is right.
7. Send from a name, not a brand
Email from “Priya at Credibuilt,” never “Credibuilt Team.” Open rates differ by 2.4×.
A real example
Subject: 20 seconds, Maya?
Hi Maya — hope launch week went well.
Would you mind recording a 20‑second clip about your team’s
experience with us? Anytime this week is fine.
[Credibuilt link — opens straight to record]
Totally fine to skip if you’re slammed.
— Priya
That email pulls testimonials from CMOs. Try it.
Next step
Set up a collect link in Credibuilt and send it to your last 5 clients this Friday afternoon. You’ll have 2–3 new testimonials by Tuesday.
